Our new collection supports Women for Women International, a charity that supports women who are victims of war through bringing women with similar experiences together, so they can learn skills to help rebuild their communities.
Founded in 1993, Women for Women has helped nearly half a million women worldwide. As we've seen in the last few weeks, Afghanistan is collapsing as the Taliban deepen their hold on the country. Women are at the greatest risk under the Taliban regime, with Taliban leaders warning women to 'stay home' despite promises to let women work and study under the rules of Islam. Women for Women International is on the ground helping Afghan women through this period of uncertainty and danger.
One of my favourite things about what Women for Women are doing is that their teams are local. They know first hand what their communities need and how best to help. They empower local women to become local leaders and continue to empower and rebuild their homes. Women for Women operate in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Sudan. Surviving a war can be isolating, but Women for Women bring women together to fight that loneliness as they learn skills like tailoring or farming. They teach women about health and nutrition, their rights and fighting domestic violence.
They also do continuous research and evaluation, so they can find out what works and what doesn't and continue to evolve accordingly.
